FAITH, FAMILY, AND LEGACY: HUNDREDS GATHER AT VICTORY CHURCH TO MOURN PASTOR SSERWADDA’S FATHER
Various people have come forward to praise the legacy of the
father of Victory Church Ndeeba pastor Joseph Sserwadda, the late elder who
passed away at age 99.
During the memorial service held at Dr. Sserwadda’s Church
in Ndeeba, former Kimaanya-Kabonera Member of Parliament Pr. Dr. Abed Bwanika,
who represented the people of Masaka, said Pr. Sserwadda served them well and is
one of the people who put Masaka on the map.
A person who benefits society receives training from many
places like school, religion, and family which he said is the most important.
He urged the Government to reduce the time children spend at school so they can return home and be taught by their parents in order to have people of value. He praised the work that the late Ssaalongo Emmanuel Musigire did in Pastor Sserwadda’s life and called on parents to always give their children time and mentor them in life skills.
He said a person doesn’t need school alone but also home
training, adding that what Pastor Sserwadda is today reflects the importance of
the family he came from, because he was mentored.
He remarked that most of the things he does weren’t learned
in school but from his now-late father. He said if he hadn’t spent a lot of
time with his father, he likely wouldn’t have become the person being spoken
about today.
On behalf of the Inter-Religious Council, the condolence
message was read by the Orthodox Archbishop, Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi,
who spoke of the deceased as someone who did great work to make Sserwadda a
visible example and role model.
They spoke of the deceased as a believer and further
comforted the Pastor’s family, urging them to hold onto God.
Pr. Sserwadda spoke about his late father, Ssaalongo Emmanuel Musigire, as a man who taught him to believe in himself as a man and to work hard, and who instilled in him a love for education even though he himself only reached Primary four.
The late Musigire was born on December 25, 1927 and died on
May 15, 2026 at the age of 99. He died from a blood clotting illness that
struck him in 2018, and he had undergone several operations at Nsambya Hospital
until he breathed his last. He will be buried in Masaka, Kalungu.
He fathered 12 children Sserwadda being the third and leaves
six who are still alive. He was married for 75 years, something Pr. Sserwadda
asked believers to value and to likewise persevere in marriage.
The deceased got saved in 1990 and was baptized in 1994, so
at the time of his death he had spent 36 years as a born-again Christian.
Pr. Sserwadda thanked the doctors who did everything possible to treat his father, and also thanked those who were there during the mourning period, including the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Kaziimba Mugalu, whose words he said comforted him greatly in his grief.
Many different people attended the funeral service for the
deceased, and many gathered at Victory Church in Ndeeba. Numerous pastors stood
with him and prayed for him in various ways.
Among those present were: Msgr. Charles Katende, Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi, Pastor Grace Lubega, Pr. Sarah Mambule, Pr. Grivas K. Musisi who was the main preacher, MP Kinyamatama, MP Abed Bwanika, and others.
