“THEY WANT ME DEAD” Man Cries Out, Accuses His Uncle of Trying to Poison Him to Grab His Grandfather's Land.

Willy Ssonko, 48, a resident of Kiyanja Zone in Kawempe, in a distressed state, struggling to breathe, said one of his relatives tried to poison him to take over his mother's land that was given to her by his late grandfather Luka Lunninze.

The person he accuses of these acts is Andrew Baasi, whom he says sold off part of his mother's land while pretending to be the administrator of the late Lunninze's estate, and now he has been left with nowhere to stay.

He showed the will of the late Lunninze which distributes his wealth, including the plot of land that was given to his late mother Melda Nambi which she left to him, but now Baasi allegedly wants to take it from him as well.

Ssonko explained that when his grandfather died in 1976, he left each of his children with their share, including Baasi's father the late Ssemugooma, and he wonders why Baasi is targeting his mother's plot and leaving his own father's share.

He accused Baasi of having greed that led him to even sell the main family house where the grandchildren used to gather. He added that when he tried to speak out, he was poisoned, which he has been treating since 2018 and which has left him with difficulty speaking and breathing.

The old man explained that Baasi and his colleagues come to his land to evict him, they poured stones and sand, and at one point they were determined to chase him away claiming a court order, and when he tried to stop them, they beat him up.

He concluded by asking the concerned authorities to help him with Baasi who he says no longer treats him as a human being and even at the Police he has gotten no help.

The Kiyanja village chairperson, Richard Ssekimpi, said that the wrangles between Ssonko and Baasi are long-standing, they have been heard in court and at the village committee but nothing has been resolved.

He said the late Lunninze distributed the land before he died, giving each child their portion, and that is when Ssonko's mother Nambi got the disputed plot that Baasi is contesting.

Ssekimpi added that there is a will of Lunninze that shows the old house and the portion where it sits belongs to the daughters, then the heir Ssemugooma was given the other side, but he encroached on it and when they tried to tell him, he threatened to hack them with pangas.

This chairperson emphasized that Baasi, Peter Lutwama together with their sisters attacked Ssonko's home and beat him up, which he says is what caused his current condition of difficulty in speaking and breathing.

Baasi, who is being accused, said Ssonko is there illegally because that place belonged to Lunninze which was inherited by his father Ssemugooma and he is the one he succeeded as a son. He said that plot Ssemugooma only lent to his sister Nambi, Ssonko's mother, to rest on, he did not give it to her completely.

He added that even where he is complaining, court already ruled that it belongs to Ssemugooma, Lunninze no longer has any responsibility over it and he has a court eviction order that he can enforce at any time.

He denied the poisoning allegation and said those are fabrications against him because he was involved in the funeral of his late father Ssemugooma who was not buried for a long time.

He said no matter what happens, Ssonko must be evicted because a nephew cannot wrangle over his maternal uncle's property, even though Ssonko says the plot was given to him by his mother.
